The New Education Policy

 

The New Education Policy which was awaited for a long time was approved by the Union Cabinet meeting by Narendra Modi on 29 July 2020. This new education system targeted to bring the transformational changes in the education system in India.

 

The New Education Policy promotes the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shreshth Bharat”. Narendra Modi focussed on the aspects of strengthening infrastructure for open and distance learning location and provide scholarships and also include usage of Technology in the education policy.

 

The New Education Policy

 

Excluding the medical and law colleges all the other higher educational institutes will be under a single regulator.

The course M.Phil. would be terminated.

The exams would be more of knowledge and application based.

Both the public and private educational institutions will be under the same rules and regulations.

Preference would be given to the mother tongue or regional language up to 5th class.

The entrance exams for the institutes and the universities would be commonly held.

The school curriculum should focus on lot of different topics.

Vocational education will be imparted from 6th class onwards.

The 10 plus 2 structure will be replaced by 5 + 3 + 3 + 4  to the respective age groups of 3-8  8-11, 11-14 and 14-18 years.

 

The main aim for implementing NEP is to enhance the quality of education and providing education to all.

Same regulations for all levels education:

 

NEP focuses on universalisation education from all levels from preschool to higher education.

This includes the following:

Tracking the student and the learning levels.

Encouraging dropouts through innovative education centres.

Infrastructure.

Providing trained social workers and counsellors at school  .

Devising multiple methods formal and informal non formal education modes.

 

Through NIOS, the students of grades 3, 5 and 8 will be provided open learning.

For grades 9-12 secondary Education programs which are equivalent will be provided.

 

Introduction of Vocational course in school curriculum

 

NEP will replace the 10 + 2 curriculum with 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 structure. NEP will be created by NCERT specially for children up to 8 years old under National Framework for early childhood care and education.

 

The Anganwadis concentrate on early childhood care and education. The Anganwadi workers and teachers will be trained in EECE pedagogy and programs.

 

 

Literacy in 2025 would be prepared to implement programs to attain literacy and numeracy for every student till class 3 in all primary schools.

 

Changes in school curriculum and pedagogy

 

For the overall development of the student, the schools should equip the students with pedagogy including 21 century key skills.

Focuses on essential learning and practical and critical thinking and radical thinking.

 

Previous curriculum content reduction.

 

Choosing the subjects in a flexible way.

 

Vocational education imparted from class 6 onwards.

 

Promotion of regional or local language till 5th class. Sanskrit will be optional third language for all schools at all levels.

 

Assessment reforms

NEP proposes assessments replacing the summative assessment. The assessment would be competency based which will improve the student’s development and learning skills. Its main aim is to improve the analytical, critical and conceptual thinking. 10th and 12th classes will have the board exams but the pattern is reformed in structure for the integrated development of the child.

 

Inclusive education

Special attention for disadvantaged group which includes students with economical, gender, geographical, cultural and social disabilities.

 

 

 

For the disadvantaged and gender discriminated and disabled students, training, accommodation and appropriate Technology would be provided during the regular schooling.

 

Open and distance learning

Measures will be taken like online courses, digital technology, so that the student services will be improved and the quality of classroom programs would be enhanced.

 

Comprehensive set of recommendations will be given by NEP for availability of quality alternative education modes by promoting the online education due to the recent pandemic.

 

Vocational education

The fundamental part of higher education system where the students are given basic training for different professions and internship of 10 days in a year will be provided in every region.
